Some thought

Walking thru the cemetery one morbid evening,
reading all the heart rending sorrowful messages on the tombstones,
I wondered,
what would I like to put on my own,
which could shock some gloomy soul like me,
to smile?

After numerous revisions,
I came up with this one.
“Here lies siggy,
who was mostly put on iggy,here.
God help Him there…”

To Each, his own poison

It was tantalizingly placed above
the crowded bus stop. Thousands of people
always milling around.
Very difficult to miss the ad
unless you were plain blind.
It showed a young
girl with her jacket unbuttoned
and just exposing two lacy
black cups. As usual, the ad guys
had got it all wrong. It was an ad for
a brand of jeans. Not for
what every guy was looking at.
It was there for almost
two weeks, before the
moral brigade got into the
act and put a piece of cloth
across the offending exposure.
But they too had got it all wrong.
The eyes were the most
enticing and it now seemed,
as though she were
mocking at me wickedly.

A visit to the home for the aged

Some are old enough to be your great granny/granpa.
Others, your grandparents.
Many are abandoned,
few are here by choice.
But all are victims of lack of space,
time, warmth and love from us.
Few are so shrunk and wasted,
you are afraid to sneeze,
lest you blow them away.
Some in wheel chairs,
some in walkers.
Few tread
the ground as though it were
thin ice.
Or mined.
Many wish you warmly,
without any reservation and you
feel bad,
because you didn’t
take the initiative.
Their expectant eyes hurt you most,
because they look at you with hope
and you refuse to befriend them.
And when you finally get courage
and overcome your revulsion
and hold one of those frail, wrinkled
hands, the bony fingers pincer you like claws.
It takes guts to be held by them.
But you are just another coward,
just like all those who had abandoned them
to this cruel fate.
You try to withdraw from the physical contact,
wondering whether you are any better
than the Nazis.
